TWO WEEKS OF NIKO

NIKO, our new pet, a little Yorkie, has been with us for a little more than 2 weeks.  By now he has endeared himself to us more than a little.  He has given signs that he loves us too; following us around, jumping onto our laps as soon as we sit down, climbing up on our bed when it is time to go to sleep, etc., etc.

And he is CUTE, really cute.

One evening, after Marthe had served our dinner and left the room for a moment, I was turned to the side on my chair tying my shoe.  Niko, jumped up behind me (and I was not really thinking about that) and when Marthe came back, she asked, “Otto!  What happened to your meatloaf?”  Well, you know the answer to that!  And, yes, Marthe shared her portion with me.  But we still think that Niko is cute.

So now we have a new president and we both (no, not Niko and I) have very positive feelings for the future of our country.  Did you watch the inauguration?

It was quite impressive and inspiring, didn’t you think so?  It WAS really a historical event, wasn’t it?  There is just so very much more history for students to learn now than when I was in school, some 70 years ago!  WOW!!

When I was in school, and I am talking about ‘grade school’ I was not so interested in the subject.  It was not presented in an interesting manner.  It was too much of memorizing dates.  But since school I have learned when, on my own, I found how interesting history could be.  (I like to think that I am not so stupid after all, and I attribute that to the fact that I have read a lot over the years!).

Now isn’t this enough for now?

  1. Niko sounds great! how old is he? i love that you added that Marte shared her portion with you. You have a really nice writing style and how kind of her! 🙂

I’m so glad you commented on the inauguration. When I last read your blog, I had just viewed President Obama (strange and exciting to see those two words together!) and wondered of your opinion. I only know from you from your writings and am pleased to read your enthusiasm!

if you don’t mind me asking, where did you go to school? i was in grade school a mere 25 years ago in Louisiana and have been in complete awe since the election.

  2. Don’t have TV here where we live so the inauguaration went on without me. Was able to read about it, however, on Al’s magnificent WWW! I too have been in awe since the election! We’ve certainly come a LONG way since one of my favorite Inaugural Address presenters inspired a then very young country . . .

“…there exists in the economy and course of nature, an indissoluble union between virtue and happiness; between duty and advantage; between the genuine maxims of an honest and magnanimous policy, and the solid rewards of public prosperity and felicity; since we ought to be no less persuaded that the propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right, which Heaven itself has ordained.”
    –George Washington, Inaugural Address, 1789

    Stay warm up there!

  3. Your puppy sounds delightful! It would be great to see some pictures of little Niko :o)

The election was a pretty big deal down here in Australia too – it was all over the news, and quite a few people I know got up at 430 in the morning to watch it (or taped it or watched the replays!). The part of his speech where he talked about his children and their children got me a little weepy while I was watching the news – what an exciting time!
